APC United Late Models

The APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour would feature a full field of 24 Pro Late Models for London Recreational Racing 100, with Ryan Kimball starting on pole after setting the quickest time in qualifying at 15.020 seconds. It’d be Shae Gemmell grabbing the early lead, though, ahead of Kimball and Shawn Chenoweth as the caution flew on Lap 4 for a stack up in turns three and four causing Rick Burbridge to go around.

The restart saw some aggressive racing, with Farrelly getting into Josh Stade, causing Stade to get sideways with Brandon Watson making contact afterwards. Everybody was able to keep going with Gemmell leading as Chenoweth moved into second ahead of Kimball, JR Farrelly and Brandon Watson. It didn’t take long for the next caution, though as that’d come out on Lap 14 for Jade Franklin having something broke in the rear end.

Gemmell would get a good restart initially, but it’d be Chenoweth using the long run to his advantage as he moved into the lead, with Watson in toe to bump Gemmell back to third. The race appeared to have a green flag look to the end of the event, until Lap 61 when Fitzpatrick made contact with Farrelly, sending him around.

A string of cautions would follow, beginning with Lap 64 as Kimball stopped in turn three with a problem, followed by the fifth yellow flag 13 laps later for McGlynn spinning off of turn four. With 33 laps to go, Chenoweth led Watson, Gemmell, Fitzpatrick, and Treyten Lapcevich.

The restart would not go smoothly as Gemmell would drive deep into turn three, getting into Watson, with Watson getting sideways. Watson would appear to slow with a problem, taking to the higher groove of the track, with Farrelly making contact with him as he slowed for the caution at Lap 77. This sequence of events allowed Gemmell to move up to second ahead of Lapcevich, Billy Schwartzenburg, and Fitzpatrick.

There’d be more contact on the restart, with Gemmell getting into Chenoweth, causing him to slide up into the high groove in turn one, losing several positions in the process. This would allow Fitzpatrick to jump into the lead ahead of Lapevich and Gemmell. Gemmell would be able to get one spot back, though, getting back up to second before the caution waved on the last lap for a spin by Stade.

J.R. Fitzpatrick got a good restart to get the win ahead of Shae Gemmell, Treyten Lapcevich, Matt Pritiko, Andrew Gresel, Billy Schwartzenburg, Jake Sheridan, Shawn Chenoweth, Jamie Cox, and Matt Box. Notably, Chenoweth and Sheridan got together after the checkered flag.

Shawn McGlynn finished 11th, followed by Hudson Nagy, Mark Burbridge, Patrick Freel, Ken Schrader, JR Farrelly, Tom Gibbons, Josh Stade, Paighton Jacobs, Brandon Watson, Jordan Sims, Ryan Kimball, Blair Wickett, Brandon Verhoeven, and Jade Franklin.

Starting up front for the feature, Jake Gilbert took the lead early, pacing the rest of the way en route to the victory despite a caution mid-way through for a multi-car incident in turn two. Wayde Thorne finished second, followed by Erik Della Riva, Shawn Taylor, Rich Schwartzenburg, Kyle Istead, Matt Young, Mark Klotz, Dave Gallinger, Jonathan Ayrton, Mike Gilmour, Alex Hastie, Allie Kitcher, Tyler Lewis, Kyle DaSilva, Mike Hooper, Wendy Adams, Michael Kenny, and Kaitlyn Wallace.

The second 20-lap feature saw Mark Klotz make the quick move to the front in the opening laps, holding off Shawn Taylor through the back half of the feature en route to scoring the victory. Wayde Thorne finished third, followed by Rich Schwartzenburg, Alex Hastie, Jake Gilbert, Erik Della Riva, Matt Young, Kyle Istead, Mike Gilmour, Jonathan Ayrton, Kaitlyn Wallace, Tyler Lewis, Mike Hooper, Wendy Adams, Kyle DaSilva, Allie Ditner, and Michael Kenny.

The first feature would go green to checkered without any issues as Ryan Hillar found his way to victory lane, holding off Blair Mayhew through the back half of the feature. Andy Wheller finished third, followed by Mark Thorne, Dale Lucas, Leo Labarera, Travis Hofstetter, Jared Bodnar, Dylan Sharpe, Blake Near, Bill Rutherford, Courtney Scott, and Eric Mahoney.

The second feature had a brief red flag for Leo Labarbera making significant contact with the backstretch wall. The last lap saw some action, too, as Hillar made contact with Sharpe going into turn one, causing both drivers to go up the track, with Thorne taking a peak to the inside making three-wide briefly. Hillar grabbed the lead off the corner, with Sharpe taking another shot at Hillar with a bump into three, but it wasn’t enough.

Ryan Hillar picked up the win ahead of Dylan Sharpe, Mark Thorne, Andy Wheller, Jared Bodnar, Dale Lucas, Blair Mayhew, Courtney Scott, Bill Rutherford, Leo Labarbera, Travis Hofstetter, Eric Stewart, Blake Near, and Eric Mahoney.
