Mirabel, Quebec – Scott Steckly and the #22 Canadian Tire Dodge team were looking forward to getting back in action for round number three of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series this past weekend at Circuit ICAR on the runways of Mirabel Airport. Coming off a solid fourth place finish at the first Quebec event at Autodrome Chaudière Steckly was confident they would be even better this weekend.
Practice began uneventfully for the #22 Canadian Tire Dodge team; however the car didn't seem to perform as well as hoped. The team went to work making adjustments before the final practice and jumped up to third quickest on the time sheet. "The guys made some really good adjustments and we had a nice improvement" said Steckly.
Qualifying did not go as well as expected and Steckly would start the 100km main event Sunday afternoon from the 11th position.
At the 2.113 mile 16 turn course of Circuit ICAR there is always plenty of action right from the start and the fourth visit by the series to the track was no exception. Contact off the initial start was the sign of things to come so it was important for Steckly to stay focused and keep the #22 Canadian Tire Dodge out of trouble.
As the cars around him pushed and shoved for position Scott was his usual methodical self and moved the #22 Canadian Tire Dodge forward efficiently as the afternoon went on. Maintaining solid pace throughout the race Steckly secured a very solid seventh place result for the team.
Afterwards Steckly was reasonably happy with their performance. "All in all a positive day today" he stated. "We gained a few spots, picked ourselves up a top ten and when you're racing for points and a championship that's what you need to look at. Now we'll head out west and look for some even better results" he added.
The #22 Canadian Tire Dodge team returns to action as the series visits Edmonton International Raceway for the first time this coming Friday, July 11th.
The Jiffy Lube 100 from Circuit ICAR will air Sun. July 13 at 11 a.m. ET on TSN and Thur. July 17 at 9:30 p.m. on RDS2.
