Thorold, Ontario – On a night that went off quicker than a Tim Hortons Coffee Run due to the threat of poor weather – Cody McPherson kicked off the Civic Holiday Doubleheader with the 30 lap Victory in the 2nd round of the 2014 David Chevrolet King of the Crates Series Saturday Night at Merrittville Speedway.

Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series action on the Welland and Pelham Tim Hortons 50th Celebration - Jim Lampman won his first Hoosier Stock Feature of 2014 as was the case also for Evan Curtis in the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Division.. Brandon Easey closed out the Feature Winners – taking home the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modified 35 lap Feature – his second of the season.

"I got lucky winning the first one ... then the second one came and now the third ... this is just awesome," said David Chevrolet King of the Crates Series Point Leader Cody McPherson of St. Catharines after his third straight and 5th Victory of 2014 in the Rick's Delivery Sportsman Division.

McPherson took the lead from initial leader Jason Farraway exiting Turn 4 to complete lap 4 and by lap 9 had opened up a lead of almost a full straightaway on the field – only to lose it due to a caution.

McPherson resumed control of top spot on the restart with Justin Sharp taking second from Austin Wood. There was no slowing down McPherson on this night as by lap 20 he led the field into lap traffic and still managed to resume about a full straightaway on Sharp. BJ Willard – who made a late race charge to take third from Austin Wood with Gary Lindberg rounding out the top 5.

Rick's Delivery Sportsman Division Heat Winners were McPherson, James Friesen and Brent Begolo.

"It was a nice track tonight ... good and tacky," said Jim Lampman of Caistor Centre in Hoosier Stock Victory, Lane, "it was our track tonight in our battle against the Camaros. My wife wasn't able to make it tonight but before I left I said I'm gonna win one!"

Again it was on lap 4 that the eventual Feature Winner took control as Lampman was able to get by Kyle Pelrine. The 2014 Rookie became the 20 lap Feature's second leader as Peter Reid briefly was in top spot at the start.

After a lap 6 caution, Lampman resumed control ahead of a three wide battle for the runner up spot between Kevin Knapp, Pelrine and Rob Murray with Mark Fawcett tagging along.

By lap 10 Lampman held stop spot with Billy Bleich in the runner up spot with Murray in third. On lap 16, Murray and Fawcett made slight contact with neither driver losing momentum. No one would catch Lampman however who had driven away to almost a full straightaway lead at the finish.

Lampman was followed by Bleich, Fawcett, Billy Hogue and Brad Sheehan.

Hoosier Stock Heat Winners were Pelrine and Reid.

"It was a great night ... we had a good starting spot and the track was awesome – we had to catch those Volkswagens," said Evan Curtis of his Ford Mustang after winning his first Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder 15 lap Feature of 2014.

Curtis of Port Colborne took control of top spot on lap 4 from initial leader Mike Giberson who had set the pace through one early restart with some three and four wide action behind him.

As the two leaders were battling side by side – the race for third in the early going had Leroy Buscumb and Tyler Lafantaisie door to door as well. Curtis regained control on after a lap 7 caution with race to set positions 5 to 10 quite hectic.

By lap 10 Curtis had pulled away to a ¼ lap advantage with Buscumb now facing a challenge from Rob Goulding who would take over the runner up spot on lap 12.

At the finish Curtis, Goulding and Buscumb were followed by Giberson and Lafantaisie.

Hoosier Stock Heat Winners were Pelrine and Reid.

Brandon Easey has got to love Holiday Weekends after winning his first Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modified Feature of the season Canada Day Weekend – the St. Catharines Driver won his second to kick off the Civic Holiday Doubleheader.

Easey took control right from the start and was only slowed once on lap 26 after Australian Driver Brett Clark ended up facing the wrong way just past the start-finish line.

In the early going, Easey held about a ¼ lap leader on then runner-up Mike Bowman with Chris Steele landing in second on lap 16. With Easey into lap traffic at the halfway point he was still able to stretch his lead.

On the restart, Easey was back out front of a battle between a number of drivers with the running order shuffled. One final caution on lap 31had Easey back out front once again with Chad Brachmann making a homestretch pass on Chris Steele to take the runner-up spot. Pete Bicknell and Chad Chevalier would round out the top 5.

Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modified Heat Winners were Easey, Tim Jones, and Brachmann.

James Friesen began the night as being named the latest Archer Truck Service Driver of the Week.
