Friday, August 8th was Emergency Services Appreciation Night, sponsored by JNF Ready Mix. The contributions of firefighters, paramedics, and police officers were celebrated on the evening that featured the Pro Late Models, GAW Recycling Super Stocks, and Demar Aggregates Trucks. Cole Powell (#25) of Mt. Brydges won the 40-lap Pro Late Model feature. Joe Windis (#65) of Cathcart won the 35-lap GAW Recycling Super Stock feature. David McCullough (#39) of Glencoe won the 25-lap Demar Aggregates Trucks feature. There was also an All Trucks King of the Hill Spectator's Race.

Cole Powell (#25) of Mt. Brydges got his first win at Delaware Speedway in the 40-lap Pro Late Model feature. Powell started in lead position but faced a great deal of pressure from Jamie Cox (#22) of Dorchester. Even as the pair put a lot of distance behind them and most of the competition, Cox was always remained close behind. A caution in lap twenty-three involving three cars took out the third place competitor, Brady Smith (#39) of Coldstream. On the restart, Shawn Thompson (#72) of Ailsa Craig was in third position but was quickly overtaken by Matt Pritiko (#21) of London. Powell, Cox, and Pritiko battled for first, second, and third for the remainder of the race and managed to distance themselves half a track away from the rest of the competition. Powell handled the the other drivers well and stayed in the lead. The battle was more intense between Cox and Pritiko. Despite his best attempts
to keep ahead of Pritiko, Cox fell back to third and finished the race there. Pritiko finished second and Powell "finally" finished first.

Powell celebrated his win with plenty of burnouts on the front stretch. He said, "For, the last four races I've been second, second, second, so it feels good to finally get a win."

David McCullough (#39) of Glencoe won the 35-lap GAW Recycling Super Stock feature. randen Verhoeven (#7) of Kerwood passed into first position into lap five and quickly put plenty of distance between himself and the competition. McCullough, who started in eighth position, also quickly worked his way to the front of the field. McCullough made the move to second in lap eight and then gave chase on Verhoeven. Always close behind, McCullough was running faster lap times than Verhoeven but did
not get the opportunity to pass until two cations in lap thirty-three placed them side-by-side on a restart. McCullough and Verhoeven ran side-by-side down the front straight into the last lap and then again across the finish line with McCullough on the high side. McCullough finished first from the top lane and Verhoeven finished second. Shae Gemmel (#3) of Dorchester finished third.

Tech Update: In post race inspection car #39 and Car #3 were both deducted 35 points and winnings from the event for use of a non-approved muffler.

Joe Windis (#65) of Cathcart won the 25-lap Demar Aggregates Truck feature. At the beginning of the race it seemed like Devon Bloemendal (#01) of Mt. Brydges had already secured the win with a large lead halfway into lap two. By lap six Windis had secured second, also a fair distance away from competition. David Bacon (#43) of Belle River and Kris Fairweather (#6) of Parkhill battled for third and fourth position. In lap sixteen, Bacon slowed and went into the pits, allowing Fairweather to secure third. Seconds later, Bloemendal also went to the pits, surrendering the top spot and giving lead position to Windis who held onto it and finished first. Fairweather finished second and Jeff Denboer (#22) of London finished third.

The All Truck King of the Hill Spectator's race featuring trucks, vans, and SUVs put on quite a show with burnouts, smoke shows, and squealing tires, all compliments of the street legal vehicles. Marcellus Wallace, the band who played on the concourse before the races, brought their van full of music equipment to the competition. Another truck put on a spark show with his hydraulics and sparks. Hercules, driving the Domino's truck, won the competition and was then pitted against Devon Bloemendal (#01), a Demar Aggregates Trucks driver. In the close battle Hercules became the first King of the Hill participant ever to win against a race vehicle, though admittedly he may have made his truck very wide to accomplish the task.Feature Race

Race Recap: Bone Stocks Make a U-Turn

August 9, 2014

All week there have been speculation about what would happen on Saturday night after track officials announced that the evening would feature something that had never been done at Delaware Speedway before. The surprise would come in the four-cylinder Bone Stock Chaos Car division, where drivers found that instead of turning left the normal way on the racetrack, they would be turning right and running part of the feature in the opposite direction. Derek Moesker (#51) of Beachville came out on
top in the part-backwards event. The evening also featured a Transmission Direct Enduro feature, won by Jamie Klumper (#07) of Mitchell.

Derek Moesker (#51) of Beachville won the 75-lap Bone Stock Chaos Car feature which included a twist in lap 50, when all cars were stopped and reversed to race clockwise around the track. Jeremy Howard (#4) of London led the first eight laps of the race (turning left), chased closely by Greg Lindsay (#84) of Mt. Brydges and Nathan Hawkins "The Animal" (#47) of Grand Bend. In lap eight, the leading group found themselves tangled up into turn one and two and ended up colliding while
battling for position, resulting in a red flag. The new leaders following the caution were Kyle Neumeister (#92) of Stratford in first, Lloyd Mailloux "The Joker" (#13) of Strathroy in second, and Hawkins in third. In lap thirty-one Neumeister spun his car into turn three whild leading and Kevin Lay (#5) of Windsor who had been riding in second position, moved into first, followed by Moesker in second, and Steve Lovie (#1) of Dutton in third. In lap fifty, the cars were stopped and then turned around to race in the opposite direction. Moesker used this twist of events to his advantage and pulled ahead of Lay, seeming to run even better in the opposite direction. Neumeister also passed Lay in the final laps of the feature finishing second, and Lay finished third.

Moesker noted in victory lane, "I think I was faster going to the right!"

The change of direction in the Bone Stocks led to a pair of particularly animated drivers meetings. In the first drivers meeting, before the announcement was made, several drivers became aggravated that a change was set to occur. Speculation already rampant about the change of direction. Drivers seemed divided into two camps: those completely set against the change, and those who were ready to race regardless. Several drivers remarked that they welcomed the change as it would prove completely that their vehicles were running the factory-stock specifications required by the series. Other drivers felt that turning the other direction was not in keeping with their vision of what the competition should look like. The drivers meeting officially announcing the change was held during the Enduro feature. In the
end, all drivers proved their competitive spirit and chose to compete in what turned out to be a largely incident-free final 25 laps.

Jamie Klumper (#07) of Mitchell won the Transmission Direct Enduro feature. By lap two Klumper was already dominating the field and a handful of cars battled for second, third, fourth, and fifth. Steve Book (#39) of Brantford secured second spot in lap six while Al Hilton (#114) of Brantford and Barry Watson (#45) of West Lorne battled for third. Watson passed Hilton going into lap nine. On lap thirty-three, Book lost a tire which took him out of the race until lap sixty-four, causing him to lose second position to Watson. The new third place runner was Carl Everett (#46). Klumper managed to not only secure his win but also finished the race as the only car on lead lap. Watson finished second and Everett finished third. Next Friday, August 15th, the ISMA Super Modifieds, world's most powerful short track cars, will be visiting Delaware Speedway along with the OSCAAR Modifieds. This event is expected to be very popular so it is recommended that spectators purchase their tickets online in advance to avoid any gate delays.
