February 27, 2015 - For the 2015 season and beyond, DTM has allowed drivers to choose their own car numbers. Only one number will be assigned each year - that of the reigning series champion who will carry the #1.

For most drivers, the number selection was based for either historical or emotional reasons, the majority of which reflected the number they carried during their rise through the karting ranks (Farfus, Vietoris, Muller). For others it was a favourite number Rockenfeller) and others an homage to past championships (Scheider was previously awarded the #1 plate and has added a ).

Canadians Robert Wickens (Mercedes-AMG) and Bruno Spengler (BMW) have chosen #6 and #7 respectively. In robert's case, we suspect it is also a throwback to his days in karting and Formula BMW USA. Wickens won championshisp in karts and Formula BMW running #66.
