Monza, Italy – Canadian race car driver, David Richert, was able to put together a successful weekend at Monza, Italy, and came away with some valuable points in an incredibly competitive Northern European Cup Championship.
After a very busy Friday with, a two hour testing session plus two free practice sessions, the Renault 2.0 cars took to the track for a Saturday morning qualifying session that saw almost the entire field of drivers all qualify within 1.5 seconds of the front row of the grid. "I was incredibly happy with qualifying. The team and I worked very hard all weekend so it was a great feeling to post such a competitive time during the session." -David Richert
But the real drama began Saturday night as Richert came down with such a bad flu that starting the race on Sunday morning came into question. "It's been a long time since I've been that sick and I didn't think it would be possible to drive in Sunday's race, but fortunately I felt well enough to get myself to the track in the morning and once you're in the car focusing on the task at hand, things take care of themselves." - David Richert
Richert started Sunday's race in 26th position and, after avoiding a pile-up at Turn 1, was able to bring his car home in the points with a 19th place finish.
"David Richert is a farm-kid turned professional race car driver from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. While continuing to work on his family's farm close to Niverville, Richert began cutting his teeth by racing karts in Gimli, Manitoba. He was then selected by Volkswagen as one of the top young race car drivers in North America and competed in the VW Jetta TDI Cup. After building the business side of his racing career, and bringing on board several prominent Canadian business leaders as investors, Richert is set to tackle the highest levels of racing. He is currently competing with Inter Europol Competition in Formula Renault 2.0.
