Canada's Best Racing Team (CBRT) travelled to Homestead-Miami Speedway this past weekend to compete in round two of the Trans Am Championship. The second race of the season marked the inaugural Muscle Car Challenge, which gave TA2 racers the opportunity to race in their own stand-alone race.
Driver, Joey McColm was eager to get the CBRT Ford Mustang back on the track after a number of modifications were made following the last race at Sebring International Raceway. Thursday's practice session led to some challenges for the team after the Mustang left the track, causing damage to the nose when the splitter was caught in grass.
The Pacmen Pit Crew worked hard to repair the damage in time for qualifying on Friday, where McColm qualified in 10th place. On Saturday, McColm ran 7th in practice, reaffirming that the Mustang was indeed a fast car.
During the race on Sunday, McColm held steady in position 9 and then 8 for the first part of the race. However, in order to avoid a crash in front of him, McColm had to brake quickly causing the car to hit the wall. This caused unrepairable damage to the Mustang, and ended the team's chances of finishing the race. Click here to watch onboard video of the crash.
"We're disappointed that this unavoidable situation led to us not finishing the race," said McColm. "However, we are still proud of our team and all of their hard work over the past few days. We will be ready to go for the next race at Road Atlanta!"
The team would like to thank their fans and partners, including Bulk Nation (America's Bulk Food Store) for their continued support. The team will race again at Road Atlanta in Georgia on May 9, 2015.
