Spielberg, Austria – David Richert is cruising away from this weekend's Northern European Cup race event at the Red Bull Ring in Austria with a couple of 17th place finishes in Race #1/#2, as well as a 16th place result from Race #3, for a valuable 13 points towards the overall championship point standings.
Under the blisteringly hot Austrian sun, it was an extremely competitive field of drivers that produced some great racing action as 80% of the cars all qualified within 1 second of each other.
Richert struggled through most of the weekend with a gearbox related issue which was preventing the correct gear from being engaged on several occasions throughout each session. However, the crew at Inter Europol Competition worked extremely hard into Saturday evening after Race 1 and were able to discover that it was a small broken spring within the gearbox which was causing all of the problems.
With gearbox issues behind him, Richert spent most of Race #3 tucked in behind the rear wing of Swedish driver Pontus Fredricsson's car, but after several attempts to make a pass, Richert was forced to settle for 16th position after finishing just .273 of a second behind the young swede.
"It was an incredibly hot and challenging weekend but I'm definitely happy with the progress we have made over the last few weeks and now it's down to finding the final few tenths of a second we need to bring us into the mix with everyone else. This is a very competitive field of drivers and I know that if I can challenge the guys around me, I will be able to have success in any championship around the world." - David Richert
The next round of the Formula Renault NEC will take place between July 23-25 at arguably the greatest race circuit in the world, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
"David Richert is a farm-kid turned professional race car driver from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. While continuing to work on his family's farm close to Niverville, Richert began cutting his teeth by racing karts in Gimli, Manitoba. He was then selected by Volkswagen as one of the top young race car drivers in North America and competed in the VW Jetta TDI Cup. After building the business side of his racing career, and bringing on board several prominent Canadian business leaders as investors, Richert is set to tackle the highest levels of racing. He is currently competing with Inter Europol Competition in Formula Renault 2.0.
