2015 marks the 5th year of the Scholarship program and the following 5 young drivers are being considered for the final selection to represent Team Canada this coming October in England.
Amy Castell (Ontario) the talented 20 year old university student makes her second appearance as a finalist for Team Canada. A big win for Amy at the VARAC event in a Kent only F1600 grid at the mid season point, highlights a superb season as she is a regular podium visitor and always fighting for the Toyo Tires F1600 B class win. Amy currently sits 3rd in the championship with just two rounds remaining.
Jean-Philippe Jodoin (Quebec) a 20 year old returning nominee, is enjoying a very successful 2015 season. JP scored his first breakout win early in the season in the Quebec based Formula Tour 1600 Series and then backed that up with another win at Mont Tremblant in July. He had a terrific weekend at the GP3R with two runner up results and finds himself leading the Championship as the season heads into the final two weekends next month.
Michael Adams (Ontario) running a limited schedule, has made the most of the opportunity with a dominant run in the interprovincial F1600 Super Series. The 21 year old showed that despite limited track time since his two championships in the Toyo Tires F1600 Series, he has not forgotten how to get the job done. With 6 wins out of the 8 Super Series races he is a strong contender.
Parker Thompson (Alberta) made his open wheel race debut this season in St. Petersburg, Florida in the ultra competitive world of USF2000. The 17 year old rookie racer has also appeared in a few F1600 events in Canada with a couple of wins in the Formula Tour 1600 series. The former karter has had a strong rookie season stateside and has been among the top rookies in the F2000 all year long.
Reid Arnold (Ontario) sits atop the points heading into the final weekend of the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship. The second year F1600 pilot is enjoying a remarkable season with 8 of 10 races producing podium results. Reid claimed the Vice Champion spot of the F1600 Super Series despite missing the final two rounds. A solid outing including fastest race lap at this seasons support race with the Canadian Grand Prix has also bolstered his position as a finalist.
Five very deserving young drivers. The choice as always will be a very difficult task as the nominees are all capable of representing Team Canada and making us all proud. With a very strong alumni of Team Canada Scholarship winners who continue their journey to move up and become professional race drivers, each of the nominees are showing the same determination to succeed.
"This is always the fun part of the program, the hard part is what comes next. The choice is never easy as we select just one driver from this impressive group of young athletes. We will be making that choice in the next few weeks after some due diligence and discussion with our selection committee. I am proud to be entering our 5th year of the Team Canada Scholarship and the drivers whom have been with us over those years are forging forward and moving up with some great results. Garett Grist is winning races in Pro Mazda, Scott Hargrove is winning races in Porsche Challenge, Zacharie Robichon is winning in F1600 and F2000 and Chase Pelletier is winning in F2000. All the drivers continue to make us proud." comments Team Canada Scholarship founder Brian Graham.
