Elmvale, Ontario – On October 19th it was officially announced that Formula F1200 driver Matt Garwood of Elmvale Ontario was selected for Mistral Racing’s first ever Young Driver Test sponsored by Carbonio Composites. Formula 1600 driver and friend Craig Willis was also selected for this exciting opportunity to advance their racecraft.

Last Friday Garwood travelled to Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, ON to participate in the Carbonio Young Drivers Test to drive a Radical SR3RS car throughout the day.

The two young accomplished Canadian drivers were thrilled to explore this opportunity under the guidance of the Mistral Racing team and driver Robert Calisi.

“I was very excited when I was awarded this test. It was nice to know that my efforts on and off the track during the 2015 season had been noticed.” Garwood said.

In preparation Garwood reviewed multiple Radical race videos before getting behind the wheel of the SR3RS Radical car.

Both Garwood and Willis had the privilege of testing the Radical SR3RS with six sessions each throughout the day. The goal of this test was to get acclimated to a new type of car, broaden the driver’s knowledge, understand how other racecars perform and the inner workings of a seasoned championship winning team.

“The most significant difference between the two racecars would have to be the speed and performance. The Formula 1200 is a momentum racecar that takes time to build up speed. The Radical SR3RS has the horsepower and ability to reach a higher speed in less distance, making the lap times significantly faster.” said Garwood.

With the many adjustment opportunities and features for car set up on the Radical compared to the Formula 1200 Garwood’s day was filled with many learning opportunities in the fast and powerful Radical car.

As the day progressed Garwood’s lap times progressively got lower with every passing lap; “Driving a vehicle with wings, slicks and a lot of power took some time getting used to but overall I know this will further my driving abilities when we go after a repeat championship next season in Formula 1200. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and privilege.”

Garwood would like to thanks Carbonio, the Mistral Racing team and fellow racer Robert Calisi for hosting and organizing such a memorable event.

Garwood is proud to represent; FEL (Franczak Enterprises Ltd.) Vallis Motor Sport, Driverseat Barrie, The Automotive Business School of Canada, KarmaComa Studio, Core Evolution Fitness, Athletes Brand and Autoglym Canada.

Garwood is also proud to be "Laps for Muscular Dystrophy" (Laps4MD) driver where he has pledged to donate $1 for every lap he leads to go to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
