Elmvale, Ontario – The 2015 Formula 1200 Challenge Cup Series Champion Matt Garwood (MGR) is proud to announce a new partnership with Barrie, ON native Andrew Waring for the 2016 racing season. Garwood has his sights set on earning back-to-back Formula 1200 Challenge Cup Series Championship titles. The addition of Waring to the team will enable Matt Garwood Racing to continue to grow their program with the knowledge and skills of two proven race winners.
Andrew Waring has many accomplishments to be proud of over a long Canadian motorsport career. Waring began karting like most up and coming racers and then graduated to open wheel formula cars at the age of 16. Andrew was presented with the 2011 Formula 1200 Rookie of the Year award and finished 3rd overall in his first year of open wheel racing. The following two years proved to be just as successful placing 3rd in 2012 and 2nd in 2013 after collecting many wins along the way.
Waring will work closely with Garwood on and off track this coming season as the two prepare for a repeat of their past season’s accomplishments. Both drivers will be on hand at the 2016 Motorama Custom Car & Motorsport Expo March 11-13th to reveal the 2016 livery.
“This is a special year for Matt Garwood Racing as 2016 will be the 5th season for the team competing in a Canadian open wheel series. I am proud to partner with a top-notch professional driver like Andrew as he strives to run up front and represent our program in the best way possible. I am also looking forward to competing for a second consecutive Formula 1200 Challenge Cup Series Championship and feel Andrews’s presence and abilities will assist in this goal. I would like to welcome him to the team and feel like 2016 will be the best year yet for Matt Garwood Racing,” said Matt Garwood – Primary driver for MGR.
Over the past six years Garwood and MGR have had many accomplishments to be proud of racking up Four Karting Championships, the 2012 Formula 1200 Rookie of the year award recipient as well as the 2015 Formula 1200 Challenge Cup Series Championship. We now feel this will just be the beginning and 2016 will be a banner year for our program with the addition of Andrew Waring.
“I am excited to partner with Matt Garwood Racing for the 2016 Formula 1200 season. MGR brings a great opportunity for me to get back into racing, and this also allows one of the sports rising stars take his next step into the professional world of racing.” said Waring.
While Garwood will run the entire five weekend Formula 1200 Challenge Cup Series season (Canadian & U.S.A) he will also run an additional Canadian Formula 1200 weekend which is yet to be determined. During the races when Garwood is behind the wheel, Waring will assist as crew chief. In addition, Andrew Waring will compete in a to be determined number of Canadian Formula 1200 events with Garwood on the head set as crew chief.
Garwood and Waring will be reunited as the duo who previously worked together at Pittsburgh International Race Complex earlier in 2015 where Garwood won his first race behind the wheel.
MGR is proud to represent that include; FEL (Franczak Enterprises Ltd.) Vallis Motor Sport, Driverseat Barrie, The Automotive Business School of Canada, KarmaComa Studio, Core Evolution Fitness, Athletes Brand, Autoglym Canada, Leaf Racewear and Driven Steering Wheels
Garwood is also proud to be "Laps for Muscular Dystrophy" (Laps4MD) driver where he has pledged to donate $1 for every lap he leads to go to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
