BGR welcomes Roman De Angelis to the team, although they have been quietly working behind the scenes for quite some time. The karting standout has been testing with the team since late 2014 and logged plenty of miles in the teams Piper DL7/Quicksilver Honda. The 2016 program begins with some Florida testing at the F1600 Championship Winter Series at Palm Beach International Raceway and Sebring International Raceway.
Roman who turns 15 this month is widely regarded as one of Canada's young karting stars and looks to carry that over as he makes his open wheel debut. Supported by De Angelis Construction , Roman will be competing this season in the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship (Ontario) as well as the Formula Tour 1600 Series (Quebec). When scheduling permits the team also will participate in selected SCCA events and the F1600 Championship Series.
"I am very excited to have Roman as part of our team at BGR, he has already shown us his complete dedication to his racing and we are confident he will have a successful season. He is still very young but has demonstrated maturity beyond his years with each outing we have had together. BGR has a history of strong rookie drivers and I am sure Roman is up to the challenge of making the most of his opportunities. The team is very anxious to get the season started." comments team owner Brian Graham.
BGR is the reigning Toyo Tires Champion with Reid Arnold and is coming off a very strong season with wins in both Canadian Pro Series with multiple drivers. The 2016 season has started out in great fashion with a win at the recent SCCA Majors Tour at Sebring with Peter Dempsey. With a full winter program to prepare for the upcoming Canadian racing season, BGR is hard at work as they look to repeat as Champions and provide their drivers with all the tools necessary to be successful.
BGR is the Canadian distributor for Piper Racecars and is a factory supported team of the popular chassis which is built in California, USA. The all new Piper DL7 debuted with immediate success and grabbed its first win at CTMP winning the Al Craighead CanAm Cup. BGR has put more drivers in the winner’s circle than any other team in OFFC history and has an incredible run winning the Rookie of the Year 9 of the last 10 years. With an alumni list that boasts drivers who have gone on to Championships all over North America to several starters in the Indy 500, BGR is well known as the place to begin a career in open wheel racing.
