Prema Powerteam delivered their second 1-2 finish of the weekend at Le Castellet, lining-up in the opening round of the FIA F.3 European Championship. After scoring a win and a second place in race 1 with Lance Stroll and Nick Cassidy, in race 3 it was Maximilian Günther to prevail, followed by Cassidy. The German youngster, who was taking-off from the pole, got a clean rebound after an ill-fated race 2 that saw him being eliminated by a rival on lap 1.

This time everything went on smoothly for him as he kept his team-mate at bay throughout the his whole run. Although the New Zealander tried to dive for the lead at the last corner, providing an even more exciting twist, Günther stayed strong, crossing the line in front. On the other hand, Stroll delivered a consistent race, rounding out the top-5, while Ralf Aron scored another points finish in his debut weekend. Cassidy is currently leading the championship with 54 points, followed by Stroll and Günther with 35.

# 1 - Lance Stroll

“I challenged for fourth place in Race 3 but as soon as I got close to the car ahead, it caused a handling imbalance. For the sake of just two additional championship points, I wasn’t prepared to throw a fifth place finish away in the opening event of the season. The Prema team did a phenomenal job over the weekend scoring three ‘poles’, five podiums and two fastest race laps.”

# 2 - Nick Cassidy

“Today, I gave it all I had. My speed was good and I also managed to keep the performance of the tyres up throughout the race. In the final corner, I made an attack on Maximilian, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. However, it would have been nice had he left me a little more room there. All in all, however, I am happy with this result and also with the weekend in general.”

# 16 - Ralf Aron

“I was starting from the third row and I gained one spot immediately as Callum Ilott stalled. I moved up to fourth and I followed Jensen for a while, but Eriksson was really quick behind me and passed me quite easily. I ended up seventh and it’s a positive result, considering that I was at my first European Formula 3 event. The team did a stellar job, while I have to analyze the data to see how I can improve myself and make my way in a new series”.

# 17 - Maximilian Günther

“I am really delighted with this victory, especially because I had a lot of bad luck yesterday as I didn’t make it beyond the first corner. This time, my start was good and then I was able to control the race together with Nick Cassidy. I had a good feeling throughout. It still got tight in the final corner, but that was down to the fact that I had some damage on my car. That allowed Nick to attack, but in the end he wasn’t able to overtake.”
