Hohenstein-Ernstatthal, Germany – Young Montréal born Kami Laliberté had a very different fate in both races disputed this Sunday at the Sachsenring, on the last of the three days of the second German Formula 4 championship weekend. Starting from the 7th place on the morning race grid, the Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) team driver managed well a few overtakes to end at the 6th position and this, even if his car was shod with a set of used tires; the team having choose to keep the last set of fresh tires for the afternoon race. Then, after recording in the morning his best result of the season, the young Canadian was starting from the first row (2nd) in the afternoon race.

A lack of experience can surely be blame for the incident that took place in one of the first corners: as the driver in front of him braked, Laliberté misjudged his own speed and hit the car, losing his front wing. Forced to return to his pit, the number 35 car driver reintegrated the race in 32nd place, before climbing back to the 21st position and recording the 6th fastest lap of the race.

‘’We are satisfied with Kami’s progress. Things are in place at a good pace. We appreciate is overall attitude and especially his speed on track, as his lap times are testifying. He’s on track in this area. Today, he has been bad lucky and may have lack opportunism, something that will surely come with experience’’, has explained Frits Van Amersfoort, the experienced Team Principal of the outfit that bears his name. With four decade of racing behind the belt, the gentleman has seen several similar cases.

‘’ I think I managed well my first race of the day, climbing up to 5th place, returning to 7th and climbing back to 6th place before the end. I have had two weekends last year and two other this season and this is so far my best result in this series. It’s encouraging. As far as the second race is concerned, I acknowledge that it has been my mistake. I haven’t been wary enough of the driver ahead of me and misjudged his braking. I retained the lesson and I am glad that I have been able to return to the race and overtake almost a dozen of drivers’’, added the Montréal driver currently 11th in the standings dominated by his Australian team mate Joey Mawson.

The German F4 championship will resume the first weekend of June as the drivers will head to another German track, the Lausitzring. In the meantime, Kami will not stay inactive as he will be part of the 75th running of the Grand Prix de Pau, disputed in the streets of the southwestern French city. He will enter the four French F4 championship races scheduled for the May 13-15 weekend.

‘’I really like the Paul street circuit, especially because we don’t have this kind of temporary course in the German championship. I raced thre in 2015 and i twill be a good opportunity to measure where I am a year later’’, concluded Laliberté.
