The coming May 14-15 race weekend signals the start of the racing season here in Canada, or at least here in Ontario.
2 major series kick of their season's this weekend, with the Nissan Micra Cup making it's Ontario debut at Calabogie Motorsports Park and the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship kicking off at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, along with a full slate of CASC-ON races.
Originally our plans had us in Calabogie for the Micra Cup opener, unfortunately a change in circumstance has made that trip impossible, so we will be live at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park all weekend, tweeting out the race action of the Toyo Tires F1600 Series, as well as all of the action from the opening rounds of the CASC Ontario races as well. We'll also be keeping an eye on all the Micra Cup happenings in Calabogie all weekend as well.

Also opening their season this weekend is the Champion Ron Fellows Karting Championship, getting rolling at Goodwood Kartways, just north of Toronto.
The CRFKC runs a 5 race season at Goodwood and Mosport Kartways and has a full grid of Rotex and Briggs & Stratton karting action.
Internationally, Indy Car moves to the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis, with Oakville's James Hinchcliffe looking to continue his rebound from season-ending injuries suffered at the Speedway last season. Last race out at the Grand Prix of Alabama, Hinchliffe had his best result of the season, finishing 6th after starting 8th.

As Formula 1 moves to Spain this weekend, the GP2 Series gets under way with it's opening round double header that will see Nicholas Latifi, the Renault Sport Formula One Team test driver, make his debut with the championship winning DAMS team for 2016, and based on testing results, Latifi should be competitive this season.

Coming Up Next Week
Next weekend is the traditional opening weekend for major racing here in Canada, with the Castrol Victoria Day Speedfest, with season openers for the newly named Pinty's NASCAR Series and Porsche GT3 Cup Canada, while the Canadian Touring Car Championship kicks off it's 10th Anniversary Season.
