Pau, France – During free practice and qualifying Friday, and again today in the first two races on the program, young Montreal born driver Kami Laliberté was confronted as all his rivals with difficult conditions, rain, sometimes heavy being a factor on almost every occasion French Formula 4 cars took to the track at the Grand Prix de Pau. Despite the events, the Canadian remains optimistic for the other two races on schedule for tomorrow.

‘’On this kind of circuit and under rain in addition, it is difficult to gain positions. But this track is really exciting, it is in fact a great challenge and you can really enjoy racing here. Also, I usually feel comfortable in the rain. I had some good lap times in free practice, but unfortunately a sudden rain shower during qualifying ruined my chances to earn a place at the front of the first race grid. I could have taken advantage of my position on the 2nd place of the the 2nd race grid, but I was struck in the back. As I know the circuit better, I am at ease and I think I could have a better day tomorrow," said the driver who following an accident and a broken suspension in qualifying, had to start 9th in this morning’s first race. A 9th place is also the position he was occupying at the end of the race held on the 2.76 difficult street circuit.

By late afternoon today, effectively starting from second position on the grid, Laliberté was hit from behind at the exit of the first corner. The incident forced the Canadian, and four other drivers to instantly retire on this first lap.

Tomorrow the French Formula 4 cars will be on track at 8:30 am. Kami Laliberté will start the third race on his program from the 10th place on the grid. This race results will determine the gird for the fourth and final race planned for 2:15 pm, in the afternoon. Fortunately for the young Canadian hope and all the other drivers, Météo France has announced clearer sky and sunny periods tomorrow.

One must remind that German Formula 4 championship which remains the Montréal born driver priority will resume on June’s first weekend on the Lausitzring, in Germany.
