Thanks to a valuable second place at Pau, Lance Stroll captured the FIA F.3 European Championship lead for Prema Powerteam at the end of what the locals consider the feature race of the Pau Grand Prix, the third round of the 2016 series.
The Canadian increased his points toll up to the 98-mark, surpassing team-mate Maxi Gunther who got stuck with 85 points after starting from the rear of the pack. Nick Cassidy also had a tough race, as he was involved in an early contact and had to retire. The same incident also collected Ralf Aron, who was forced to make his way back to the pits to change his front wing.
# 1 - Lance Stroll:
“It has been a good race. I started well and, after the safety-car, I tried to pressure Alessio. Unfortunately on this track is almost impossible to pass if the driver in front doesn’t make mistakes. I’m satisfied with our podium finish and ready to focus on next weekend’s round at Red Bull Ring”.
# 2 - Nick Cassidy:
“I had a very good start but then I was pushed towards the track limit by another car and I lost control, getting involved in a multiple contact. It’s a pity because we lost vital points and the team will have a lot of work to do to fix the car for the upcoming round at Red Bull Ring”.
# 16 - Ralf Aron:
“The start has been quite good but I got involved in the melee at the start, and got front wing damage. After getting back on-track, I tried to increase my chemistry with the track as much as possible”.
# 17 - Maximilian Gunther:
“After yesterday’s penalty, I started from the back but an early tangle jeopardized my performance. Now we have to forget this race as quickly as possible and prepare for the Red Bull Ring”.
