Daytona Beach, Florida - Ilker Starck will be the first to admit that as much as he loves motorsports, the racetrack often wasn't a fun place to be in 2015.

Starck was a mainstay of the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama from 2012-14, competing in the Platinum Cup class in the 2012-13 seasons and in Gold Cup in 2014 with his SCB Racing team.

But Starck, from Toronto, made the tough decision to not race in the 2015 season. He needed to focus on the growth and relocation of SportsCarBoutique, the thriving automotive aftermarket parts and service company he and his wife, Isabel, formed in 2010 in Toronto.

Reorganized and refreshed, Starck and his team are back and bigger than ever in Canada's premier sports car championship in 2016 with a lineup of two new Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport cars in the revived Silver Cup class. Veteran Andrew Danyliw and young newcomer Jordan Redlin will drive the SCB Porsches in Rounds 1 and 2 during the season opener May 20-22 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Bowmanville, Ontario.

"It was very difficult to see your colleagues and just shake hands and walk around," Starck said of his visits to CTMP for races last year. "It kind of feels like, 'Are you really out of the game?'

"We have nothing but love for this brand: We have Porsche in our veins. It was a good call to take a breather (in 2015) for everybody. But from a pure racer, pure team owner perspective, it was a very difficult decision.

"We're really excited to come back. We're ready to come back. That year we took off gave us some breathing room to reorganize."

Former fashion industry executive Starck never lost hope about returning to the series, and some of his customers inquired about the possibility of driving for SCB Racing this season. So the amiable Starck converted that intent into reality with help from his friends.

Starck first connected with Michael Mrak, general manager of the Mark Motors auto dealership in Ottawa, which has long embraced the connection between motorsport and sales. Mark Motors started sponsoring cars in the first year of the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama in 2011 and has fielded a team in the championship since 2013.

Mrak and Mark Motors helped Starck and SCB relaunch their racing program this season with the new Cayman GT4 Clubsport cars.

"That took away a lot of stress for me," Starck said. "I'm really happy to have these cars here, and I'm really happy that we formed a partnership with a company that's pro-motorsport. That's awesome."

Another huge helping hand came from Porsche Motorsport North America and its president and CEO, Jens Walther. Starck said Walther played an instrumental role in getting a second Cayman GT4 Clubsport car for SCB Racing delivered in time for the season opener at CTMP.

"Being in touch with Jens Walther at PMNA has played a significant factor in getting the second car, almost flown in," Starck said. "That says a lot about Porsche Motorsport - if you want something, and they have it, you'll have it the next day."

Preparation also has played a big role in Starck's comeback. In the past, SCB Racing was a hard-working team that had a small crew forced to juggle many different jobs. No one performed that high-wire balancing act more than Starck, who served as driver, team manager, mechanic and in nearly every other role imaginable.

This season Starck is enjoying the luxury of full crews for both cars. He also is stepping away from full-time driving duties, while still planning to drive in a race or two.

"We're in a very good position," Starck said. "We were to pick the cream of the crop, the best guys, in addition to the guys who already work here. It will be the first time in all of these years where I will have time to be a team manager. I don't have to run around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to race, trying to organize things, to run from meeting to meeting and from tech inspections. It's going to be the first time where the boys have everything under control.

"We have so many people for each car assigned, and I can just be on the radio and just watch everything, take notes. I think this is the best way to be successful, to have this big picture in front of you. You can look from the outside in and make positive changes to it."

Starck elected to return to the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama in the Silver Cup class because he was intrigued by the new car and because the Cayman GT4 Clubsport can be adapted for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge or endurance racing around the world - a future goal of Starck and SCB Racing.

"If it all comes together, knock on wood, we really want to move forward," Starck said. "We've got a good car, as well. We're really excited to come back."
