The Prema team increased their win count today at Norisring, as the Italian squad has now prevailed seven times in 14 races in the 2016 FIA European F.3 season. On the Nurnberg street circuit, the Prema stable collected a win and a second place with Lance Stroll, who also pulled away in the driver standings. In the first race, the young Canadian was passed by Eriksson, but then took smart avoidance action when Ilott made contact with the Swede and retook the lead for good.
In race 2, Lance constantly held second place as he focused on collecting valuable points. Maximilian Gunther made it back to the second place in standings with a third place in race 2. On the other hand, Nick Cassidy lost a third place in race 1 due to a safety-car infraction and was demoted to sixth. His race 2 recovery was phenomenal though, as he moved from the last row to fourth place. Ralf Aron was equally impressive in race 1, moving up from 15th to fourth.
# 1 - Lance Stroll
“In race 1 my start had been good, but after a few laps Eriksson got by with a great manouver. Not too much later, Ilott caught us, but lost his braking point at the hairpin and crashed into Eriksson. After this incident, that enabled me to go back to the lead, I just went on to manage the final laps. In race 2 I stayed behind Hubert, who was really quick and deserved to score his maiden Formula 3 win. It’s been a remarkable day, I collected many valuable points and increased my championship lead”.
# 2 - Nick Cassidy
“I was proud to have secured a podium finish and some valuable points after a strong race. I stayed among the frontrunners, fighting and passing them. Then, I got a penalty for my conduct behind the safety car. I accept it although it was hard to give the trophy back and accept the demotion to sixth place. In race 2 I did my best, starting from the last row I had nothing to lose, and pass after pass I got up to the fourth position. I couldn’t have hoped for more!”
# 16 - Ralf Aron
“I’m really satisfied with how the first race went. The car was quick and I managed to get several spots back starting from the 8th row on the grid. I also kept my nose clean, profiting from the race contacts. Fourth place is a nice reward considering the struggles in qualifying. In the second race I made contact with Lorandi in the opening laps, and after that the car wasn’t as efficient as before so I just tried to get to the finish. Tenth place is the best result I could get”.
# 17 - Maximilian Gunther
“I started well and I was having a solid race 1, but I had a contact at the first corner and the car became difficult to drive. I dropped down to 11th place, out of the points, and in a following contact with the wall, the front wing got damaged. At that point I retired. The second race has been positive. The third place provided me with the points I needed to get back to second place in the championship at my home race. Let’s see what happens in race 3 tomorrow”.
