The Prema team and Lance Stroll secured their second win of the weekend in the final race of the FIA F.3 European Championship at Norisring. After cruising to victory in race 1 and grabbing a second place in race 2, the Canadian scored on Sunday in an eventful race 3. Stroll showed huge control skills as he managed two safety-car conditions and a 15-minute red flag due to the cleanup needed after a crash. Lance performed without a hitch and sailed to his win number five this season, also stretching his championship lead as he now stands with 234 points. His team-mate, Gunther, who is the current runner-up with 148 points, rounded out the top-5 in front of Nick Cassidy, who completed another recovery from the back of the pack. Ralf Aron ended up ninth, completing with a triple top-10 finish another valuable rookie weekend.
# 1 - Lance Stroll
“It was a difficult race and we could not complete the scheduled distance due to several crashes. However, my race 3 has been positive anyway. The car was perfect, I held the point all the time starting from the pole, and the weekend ended in the best possible fashion, with two wins. Now I have an 86-point margin over Maximilian, which is an interesting advantage yet not really meaningful at this point. The most important thing will be to lead the table when the season ends!”
# 2 - Nick Cassidy
“As happened in race 2, I started from the last row due to the gearbox issues experienced in qualifying 2. And, once again, I did not surrender. I fought hard and ended up whith a sixth place which is incredible considering that less than 10 green-flag laps were completed. I think that, without all that interruptions, I could have clearly aimed at a podium finish. I thank the team for their huge effort made throughout the weekend to provide me with such a quick car”.
# 16 - Ralf Aron
“It has been a complicated weekend as I suffered from two bad qualifying sessions that pushed me to the back of the grid in all three races. If in the first heat I recovered up to the top-5, in race 2 yesterday and today it didn’t end up the same way. The car was quick anyway, but repeating the same feature of the opening run was really difficult”.
# 17 - Maximilian Gunther
“I was in row 2 and we started behind the safety-car. I tried to pass Zhou at the first corner, but he shut the door on me and Camara got by. It hasn’t been an easy moment, but I tried to fight for the podium even if the Volkswagen-powered cars were quicker on the straight. I wait for a mistake which eventually didn’t come. Today’s one is a good result for me anyway, I scored 10 points and held onto the second place in standings”.
