Elmvale, Ontario – Formula 1200 / FV driver Matt Garwood had set a variety of goals for himself this past racing season. The first was to achieve as many Formula 1200 / FV race win’s as possible. The second was winning another Challenge Cup Series Championship title and he did just that.
Garwood wrapped up his 2016 Challenge Cup Series Championship season one week ago running the #31 Feldrives.com car at Watkins Glen International Raceway where he finished third, second and first in class with all three races being extremely close.
He faced many up’s and downs throughout the 2016 season but taking the top spot on the podium at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park his home track was an extra special achievement, a goal Garwood had been chasing for 4 years.
Hovering at the top in 2016 Challenge Cup Series Championship points for most of the season, the former 4-time Canadian Karting League Champion achieved his second Challenge Cup Series Championship and knows he couldn’t have done it without the dedicated support from his family, friends, team and sponsors.
“Knowing that we’ve finally got to this point as a team is one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. I am so thankful for everyone who has helped us earn the repeat championship win this year. Our Matt Garwood Racing team gets stronger each passing season and we are already preparing and looking forward to 2017.” said Garwood.
While Garwood and team wrapped up the 2016 Challenge Cup Series Championship one week ago they now turn their attention to the 2016 Millers Oils Formula 1200 (Canada) Championship. Garwood is in a close championship battle for the top step of the Canadian podium which will be decided at Canadian tire Motorsport Park Oct 1st – 2nd.
“I must thank Crew Chief Bill Vallis for his expertise and support, I offer my deepest appreciation to many others including; Sid Nye, Andrew Waring and Danielle Davies for all of their help and guidance throughout the season, as well as Ray and Katrina Carmody (Carmody Racing) and Rob Murray (RBM Motorsports) for their incredible support and hospitality throughout the entire season.” said Garwood
A proud "Laps for Muscular Dystrophy" (Laps4MD) driver, Garwood has pledged to donate $1 for every lap he lead this season to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
