Spengler (BMW) and Wickens (Mercedes AMG) start the DTM Series this weekend at Hockenheim
With Brands Hatch (UK) off the schedule this year, DTM is heading to Motorsport Arena Oschersleben this weekend for round two of the series. Last year the race was won by BMW (Farfus) but the Audi took eight of the top ten positions. The manufacturer will be looking to dominate once again this year on the 3,696 km (2.29 mi) 14-turn circuit. Joey Hand set the fastest lap last year (15. September 2013) a 1:21.55 in the BMW M3 DTM. This year BMW is running the new M4 DTM which took six of the top ten spots at the season opener at Hockenheim two weeks ago. Mercedes AMG's struggled at Oschersleben last year and their year has not started off well.
The Motorsport Arena was not kind to either of the Canadian drivers last year with both Robert Wickens (Mercedes AMG) and Bruno Spengler (BMW Team Schnitzer) going out in the final fifteen laps. Wickens and Spengler will most certainly be looking for better results this year and Bruno is already at an advantage on the season having finished sixth at Hockenheim and carrying momentum into the weekend.
As for Wickens, he put on a show taking his Mercedes AMG C Coupe from 20th on the starting grid all the way up to the top five with a masterful drive that got everyone's attention. Starting on the option (soft) tires he sliced through traffic but the car was not match for the rest when he switched to the prime (harder) tires. Robert finished 18th on the day but definitely proved that the Mercedes C Coupe with him at the wheel will be one to watch throughout the season.
