Speedway, Indiana – On his first trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Canadian Indy Lights racer Zack Meyer experienced a mix of success and disappointment.

 

Meyer earned his first top-five finish of the year on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, but he was knocked off course and out of a potential further strong finish in the second race of the doubleheader. Now, two weeks after the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Meyer returns to the oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with his #2 TMR/DAMIS PARTNERS III/Innisfil Indy Karting/Xtreme Coil Drilling car for the first oval race of his Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires career.

 

Meyer, 21, from Innisfil, Ont., had a test session on the oval prior to Grand Prix of Indianapolis weekend. Meyer used that opportunity to better understand an Indy Lights Dallara on an oval and to get a grasp on what both he and the team need to do to go quickly on the famed IMS oval. With a number of laps and some key findings under his belt, Meyer is ready to take on the Freedom 100. "We spent a lot of time getting the car comfortable and getting me comfortable on the track, just finding out what we need to do to make sure that we are flat-out around the whole track," Meyer said ahead of the start of practice for the Freedom 100. "We made a lot of progress and have a better baseline setup going into the race weekend. I found out some things I need to do in the car, too, to make sure we are as fast as possible."

 

The Freedom 100 is the first and biggest of the three oval events on the 2014 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires schedule. The sole Canadian racing in Indy Lights will have one three hour practice session, single-car qualifying, and then the 40-lap Freedom 100 to conquer this week. The Freedom 100 is slated to take the green flag at 12:30 p.m. EDT on Friday. The television broadcast of the Freedom 100 will be live on NBC Sports Network as part of the Carb Day broadcast for the Indianapolis 500 beginning at Noon EDT on Friday.

About Zack Meyer:

A homegrown racer from Toronto, Ont., Meyer began his racing career in karting at Innisfil Indy Karting. Meyer's racing career blossomed under the tutelage of his driver coach and manager, Joe Launi. With both the support of his mother and Launi, Meyer went on to become one of the top karters for the ultra-competitive GP Racing Karts team, participating in and winning numerous KZ2 Shifter Kart events.
