Inaugural Visit to Newfoundland and Labrador Brings Excitement to Pinty’s Series.

After months of planning and anticipation, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series has finally arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Following a trek across the eastern part of the country – over 2,500 km for some teams – haulers arrived at Eastbound International Speedway and Concert Park Thursday in advance of Saturday’s PRO•LINE 225 Presented by QwickWick. The race is the first for the Pinty’s Series in Newfoundland, the seventh different province the series has visited.

“Our fans and competitors have been excited for the trip east since we announced this race,” said Chad Seigler, NASCAR Vice President, International Business. “This weekend is a great opportunity to showcase NASCAR and our drivers to fans on the eastern coast, and those that made the trip. We have a great partner in the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism and are honored to be part of the Come Home 2022 festivities.”

This will be the first look at the track for almost every series regular which opens the door for a surprise winner. Though some drivers, like current points leader Kevin Lacroix (No. 74 ESR WHEELS/Lacroix Tuning/Boulonnerie Dodge), enjoy the challenge of a new track.

“We’re quite confident, I learn new tracks pretty fast,” Lacroix said. “I think we have a good basic setup and have other similar tracks we can refer to.”

While it may be difficult to know exactly what you need at a new race track, there are ways for drivers to prepare before showing up.

“I’m watching a lot of video from the track to help me try to anticipate what will happen,” said Treyten Lapcevich (No. 20 RGC Sports/Qwick Wick/FBM Chevrolet). “You can kind of see the lines that people are taking and try to duplicate that when you get there.”

But the advantage may go to series legend D.J. Kennington (No. 17 Castrol Edge/CIM Metals/Cathcart Trucking Dodge) who competed at the track just a few years back.

“I’m really looking forward to getting our Castrol Edge Dodge on track at Eastbound Speedway,” Kennington said. “I had a great experience there a couple of years ago, it’s a fun track to race on and having that little bit of experience will certainly help us at the start. There’s a lot of race fans there and we’re looking to put on a good show for them and be on the top step of the podium at the end of the night”.

Eastbound International Speedway is the 21st different track to host a race in the 16-year history of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. It has been a NASCAR-sanctioned Home Track since 2016.

Trip To Newfoundland And Labrador A Different Experience For All

Beyond the action on the track at Eastbound International Speedway, the trip marks the first time to the province for some drivers and a familiar return for others.

Kevin Lacroix is one who will be making his first trip to The Rock.

“It will be my first time that far east,” Lacroix said. “I’m really excited to discover what it’s like over there – the culture, the people. It’s very different from Montreal, so I’m excited to see that.”

For reigning series champion LP Dumoulin (No. 47 Weathertech/Bellemare Dodge), a trip to The Maritimes has a special meaning.

“My mom is from New Brunswick, so every time we go out East I get really excited,” Dumoulin said. “I have friends in Newfoundland who are waiting to see us. It’s a different lifestyle out there, I love it.”

Three Races, Three Overtime Finishes, Three Different Winners

An exciting pattern has emerged in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series with the first three races of the 2022 season being decided in Overtime.

Andrew Ranger (No 27 GM Paille Chevrolet) was the latest driver to capture the checkered flag after an overtime finish, holding off teammate Marc-Antoine Camirand (No. 96 GM Paille/Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet) to win the QwickWick 250 Presented by St. Hubert at Autodrome Chaudiere.

Ranger has competed at all 20 tracks the series has raced at and has at least one win at 17 of them.

“We have a fantastic car for Newfoundland and can’t wait to get there,” Ranger said. “It’s great for the series and great for the fans – and I hope to win another race. Any time you win a ‘first’ race, it is special. It’s a nice track and the fans will be amazing, and I can’t wait to get there.”

Ranger joined Treyten Lapcevich (Sunset) and Kevin Lacroix (CTMP) as 2022 series winners.

The OSCAAR Modifieds are in action for the second striaght week.

Innisfil, Ontario – The busy weeks continue for the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Just Foam It as they’re back in action for the second consecutive week in a row at Sunset Speedway.

As we glance through the field, there are several drivers to keep an eye on.

Kelly Balson showed that he has good speed with 11 top-five’s and 19 top-10’s in his last 23 series starts. The past Sunset Speedway winner hopes to carry the momentum into this weekend, after three podiums in his last four appearances at the Innisfil oval.

T.J. Edwards knows what it takes to get the job done as he is your current defending series champion, and picked up a checkered flag at Jukasa Motor Speedway in 2019. He has ran well at Sunset Speedway, scoring four top-10’s including three podiums across his last five appearances.

A.J. Emms enters this weekend with only nine finishes outside of the top-eight in the past 44 series starts. The driver of the No. 14 Modified has had success at Sunset Speedway previously, having won two of the series’ last five appearances at the Innisfil oval.

The No. 35 was in victory lane earlier this year at Sunset Speedway, courtesy of Andy Kamrath. He hopes to repeat that feat after having won three of the last series’ four events at Sunset, and a total of five checkered flags in his last six series starts.

Jason Keen knows how to get to Sunset Speedway victory lane, having done so in a Canadian Vintage Modified. He hopes to do the same in his OSCAAR Modified, following three top-five’s in his last five appearances. He currently has scored a top-10 in 11 of his last 13 tour appearances.

Dale Reinhart enters this weekend hopes to keep the ball rolling this weekend after scoring a third-place finish at Sauble Speedway. Notably, he has scored a top-10 finish in 15 of his last 18 series starts. The Innisfil, Ontario track has treated him well with just five finishes worse than fourth in his last 11 starts, including a runner-up at 2018 Fall Velocity.

Wally Wilson hopes to be in the thick of the action this weekend, aiming for a top-10 performance. Notably, he scored a track-best eighth at Sunset Speedway in 2020, and only has three finishes worse than 12th in his six Innisfil, Ontario oval appearances.

Marshall Schrenk hopes to keep the ball rolling this weekend following an eighth at Sauble Speedway for his second straight top-10 finish. He has ran well at Sunset Speedway previously, scoring no finishes worse than sixth in his four tour appearances including a 2021 Fall Velocity victory.

Luke Gignac will hope to turn things around after just missing the top-10 in the series’ most recent event at Sauble Speedway. He has scored a top-10 in each of his last three Sunset Speedway appearances.

Paul Townsend is no stranger to modifieds, having raced them across the United States previously. So far, this year hasn’t gone as planned with a pair of finishes outside of the top-10. He scored a track-best finish of 11th at Sunset Speedway last season.

Jake Watson has been solid this season so far, picking up an eighth at Sunset Speedway to go with a sixth at Sauble Speedway. He’ll aim for a top-five performance this weekend for a career-best performance.

Tommy Robb will hope to get back in the top-10 this weekend after failing to do so at Sauble Speedway. He was able to at Sunset Speedway in May with a ninth.

Tyler Liscum hopes the bad luck that has plagued his team thus far will shift around this coming weekend.

After missing Sauble Speedway, Ryan Dick will be in-action this weekend at Sunset Speedway, in hopes of redeeming himself after not taking the green flag in May’s feature due to motor issues. He scored three top-10’s on the tour in 2021, including a ninth at Sunset Speedway.

Herb Walters saw his feature end early at Sauble Speedway as a result of an incident. He hopes to turn things back around this weekend after impressing everyone with a fourth at Sunset Speedway in May.

Shawn Murray is set to make his anticipated debut with the tour, following success in Mini Stocks, Late Models, and the Ontario Legend Series previously.

Mike Hearty looks to carry the momentum into this weekend, following a sixth at Sunset Speedway to kick off 2022.

Saint-Eustache, Quebec – It will be a first for Kevin Lacroix this weekend as the NASCAR Pinty's Series heads to a new track that is still unknown to drivers.

Eastbound International Speedway, 40 minutes from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, is a track that will be on the NASCAR Canadian Series schedule for the next three years. The drivers will start as equals since none have raced on the track before.

Kevin Lacroix is apprehensive about the 225-lap race on the 3/8 mile oval. "The Eastbound International Speedway is a little bit bigger than the St-Eustache oval; the corners are tighter but not as tight as at Chaudiere. We're usually better on bigger tracks with less banking, so we should be fine there," explains the driver of the #74 Lacroix Tuning | ESR Performance Wheels | La Boulonnerie.

Lacroix has been dominant on the road course this season as he took the win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park earlier in May, but the team is still trying to find the perfect setup for the oval car. "We're trying to get better race after race, but it's hard without testing."

This will be a significant event as Lacroix leads the drivers' championship but is tied with Alex Tagliani. The Top 8 is extremely close in the points, so it will be imperative for the team to use a strategy that requires patience.

He concludes by saying, "I'm happy to discover a new track! I love visiting Canada." The 225 Pro-Line will be held in two 112-lap segments, with a 5-minute break to allow team members to work on the cars. The event will kick off at 4:34 p.m. local time (3:04 p.m. Eastern Standard Time).

About Lacroix Motorsport: Lacroix Motorsport is a race team created in 2015 from Sylvain Lacroix and Serge Bourdeau’s idea. They wanted to race for pleasure on road tracks in the Canadian NASCAR series. After Kevin Lacroix’s first two wins, and seeing his son’s potential, Sylvain decided to participate full-time in the series. Lacroix Motorsport is not only a team in the NASCAR Pinty’s, in fact, Dany Lacroix, Kevin’s brother, also races in the STCH Cup Formula Tour 1600 in Kent Class.

Lacroix Motorsport stems from an idea and passion. By creating this team, world snowmobile champion, Sylvain Lacroix has made it a family affair.
